La Mano Breaks the -O Rule
Spanish nouns ending in -o are almost always masculine — el brazo, el dedo, el codo. La mano is the famous holdout, an irregularity inherited from Latin, so it's la mano derecha, never el mano. Meanwhile la cabeza, la pierna and la espalda end in -a and behave exactly as advertised.
