The Persistence of Cognitive Illusions
In the Müller-Lyer illusion, two horizontal lines of identical physical length appear starkly unequal due to arrow-fins. Even after measuring the lines and consciously knowing they are equal (a System 2 belief), System 1 continues to perceive the outward-finned line as longer.
